Social Studies


Social Studies topics in third grade include immigration, economics, native ways, indigenous people, maps, globes, and atlases. During social studies instruction, third graders will learn about history as well as modern times. They will begin to see how the people and things around them effect the lives they live as children and the world they will be entering into as adults. Students will begin to see how understanding geography, economics, and people will prepare them to become global citizens in our ever-changing world.


 We are currently studying Indigenous People. The tribes that we have covered so far are the: Inuit of the Arctic; the Tlingit of the Northwest; the Nez Perce of the Plateau; the Maidu of California; the Sioux of the Plains. Next, they will begin a research project to be done both at home and in class. They will choose either the Pueblo of the Southwest; the Iroquois of the Northeast, or the Seminole of the Southeast.
